▲ Shield of the 17th JEITA Chairman's Award
The "Smart Home Committee / Data Collaboration Platform for New Service Creation Working Group" of JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association), in which Sharp participates, has received the 17th JEITA Chairman's Award with the theme "Initiatives Toward the Social Implementation of the In-Home Data Collaboration Platform."
The JEITA Chairman's Award honors individuals or organizations that have made remarkable contributions to the development of the electronics and IT industries, the creation of new technologies and markets, strengthening of international competitiveness, as well as the promotion of public welfare, including consumer protection and environmental conservation.
In collaboration with the ECHONET Consortium, the "Smart Home Committee / Data Collaboration Platform for New Service Creation Working Group" has dedicated efforts to the development of the In-Home Data Collaboration Platform, which enables the utilization of data from home appliances and devices provided by multiple vendors. This platform enhances interoperability among smart home businesses and has already been put into practical use in care management services for elderly households. These efforts have been recognized as a valuable contribution to society, advancing sustainable social infrastructure services.
▲ Framework and Role of the In-Home Data Collaboration Platform
Since 2017, Sharp has been leading activities in the JEITA "Smart Home Committee" to realize the smart home as a new market that creates attractive services through the consumer lifestyle data collected from IoT appliances and residential equipment.
In August 2022, the "Data Collaboration Platform for New Service Creation Working Group" was established as a joint organization between JEITA's Smart Home Committee and the ECHONET Consortium. The group began discussions on architecture design and standardization toward the social implementation of the In-Home Data Collaboration Platform.
In October 2023, a project was launched in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, with Sharp, Mitsubishi Electric, AIoT Cloud, and others, to build a multi-vendor "IoT Elderly Monitoring Service" utilizing IoT appliances from various manufacturers. For elderly households requiring monitoring, Sharp's air purifiers equipped with motion sensors or Mitsubishi Electric's air conditioners were installed. Data collected in each household was sent via the Internet to the In-Home Data Collaboration Platform, where advanced processing was carried out to assess the condition of the elderly. The information was then matched with resident IDs in Nomi City's general-purpose integration system to identify households, and notifications were sent to care managers or community welfare volunteers responsible for those households—realizing the first system of its kind in Japan.
Going forward, diverse data sets—including in-home data, personal information, and base registry data— will be combined with administrative and private sector (regional industry) initiatives. Beyond elderly monitoring, utilization is aimed to be expanded to services such as nursing care and disaster prevention, thereby fostering community-based "mutual assistance" across generations and functioning as a sustainable social infrastructure.
