Pre-CES Press Conference

On January 6, 2008, the day before the start of the 2008 International CES*, (January 7 to 10), Sharp held a press conference in Las Vegas, host city to America's largest electronics event.

Toshihiko Fujimoto, Corporate Director and Group Deputy General Manager & CEO Americas, International Business Group, kicked off the conference by introducing the next-generation of AQUOS and explaining a business strategy centered on LCD and solar cells. Of the new 20-milimeter-thin LCD TVs, Mr. Fujimoto's showing of the 65-inch model won accolades from journalists for advanced technologies that give it a thin profile and picture and environmental performance beyond any previous TV. In discussing Sharp's policy to become an environmentally advanced company, he introduced the new "manufacturing complex for the 21st century" in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, which will have factories producing both cutting-edge LCDs and thin-film solar cells.

Mike Troetti, President of Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA), outlined LCD business strategy in the Americas and the recently completed integrated LCD TV manufacturing plant in Mexico. Bob Scaglione, Senior Vice President of SEMCA, gave an overview of the Sharp products the journalists could look forward to seeing at the 2008 International CES.

The question-and-answer session yielded numerous inquiries into Sharp's LCD and LCD TV businesses and showed the media's high interest in the new lifestyles being offered by Sharp's next generation of LCD TVs.
