Sharp Meets the Press at CES 2012

On January 9, 2012, a day before the commencement of the 2012 International CES* (which ran from January 10 to 13), Sharp held a press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kozo Takahashi—CEO & Chairman of Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC) and Sharp Corporation Executive Managing Officer, Group General Manager, North & South America Group—explained Sharp’s business vision to attendees and announced that the company will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. He also outlined Sharp’s future developments in areas such as large-screen displays and solar power generation.

Following Mr. Takahashi, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America (SIICA) President Doug Albregts introduced the 80-inch AQUOS Board touchscreen LCD monitor. He stressed that Sharp is taking business technology to a new level and is offering a truly interactive workplace tool.

The AQUOS Board runs on the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. Microsoft Corporation’s Corporate Vice President of the Original Equipment Manufacturer Division, Steve Guggenheimer, was on hand to explain the AQUOS Board’s compatibility with Windows.

Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA) President John Herrington then outlined Sharp’s AV product strategy for North and South America. He spoke of the growing demand for large-screen LCD TVs in the US market, introduced Sharp’s new lineup of 60/70/80-inch models.

SEMCA Vice President of Marketing Mark Viken followed with an explanation of key features on the new AQUOS lineup, such as the SmartCentral TV platform. SEC Chief Marketing Officer Bob Scaglione later introduced the Sharp SunSnap AC Solution System, which has been developed under Sharp’s business vision of bringing forth energy-creating and energy-saving products.

The approximately 420 journalists and industry analysts in attendance showed a high level of interest in Sharp’s latest business developments.
