Eco-Products 2010 Exhibition Report

Sharp's booth was crowded with visitors

Sharp Corporation exhibited at Eco-Products 2010 held from December 9 through December 11, 2010 at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center (TOKYO BIG SIGHT) under the theme "Sharp Eco Efforts Will Change the World. Sharp—an Eco-Positive Company."
This environmental exhibition began in 1999 with the aim of promoting the wider use of eco-conscious products and the achievement of a sustainable society. It is one of the largest environmental exhibitions in Japan.
This year's show, the 12th annual edition, attracted over 183,000 visitors to the three-day event, a record attendance. Many visitors stopped by Sharp's booth, for which we are sincerely grateful.

Main Stage

The Main Stage explained in clear language Sharp's goal of being an Eco-Positive Company and the key features of its initiatives to contribute to the achievement of a green society. In addition, on the afternoon of the second day, Sharp presented a seminar on the theme of Sharp's environmental strategies and its environmental and social contribution activities, and it proved popular with many visitors.

Solar Stage

The Solar Stage featured the Tokai Challenger, the solar car of the Tokai University team equipped with solar cells manufactured by Sharp that was the overall winner in the South African Solar Challenge 2010, a solar car race held in the Republic of South Africa. The display showed scenes from the race and also highlighted Sharp initiatives toward solar power generation.

Solar Power Generation

In addition to displaying Sharp's new high-efficiency single-crystal, thin-film, and thin-film see-through solar modules, this area emphasized Sharp's initiatives toward becoming a Total Solar Solution Company.

Reference exhibit of new high-efficiency single-crystal solar cells and modules with a module conversion efficiency of 17.2%. Mass production is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2010.

Featuring a display of thin-film solar modules, this display highlighted a mega-solar power generation plant, one of the world's largest, now under construction in Thailand. It also emphasized Sharp's alliances with local companies for the construction and operation of solar power generation plants now underway in Europe and the US.

Energy-Saving Products

This area showcased AQUOS Quattron models that feature both high image quality and energy-efficient performance, as well as AQUOS Blu-ray Disc recorders. Other displays highlighted Sharp's air conditioners, refrigerators, household LED lighting products, Plasmacluster Ion generators and air purifiers, etc., as well as Sharp's energy-saving technologies. Office-oriented products included digital MFPs, commercial LED lighting, and Plasmacluster Ion generators.

Comparison of three primary colors versus four primary colors. The high image quality and energy efficiency of four primary colors are obvious.

A refrigerator and an air conditioner. The demonstration of an air conditioner featuring a built-in insolation sensor as well as "Nature Wing" bird-wing-shaped, high-efficiency fan blade technology attracted attention.

Household LED ceiling lights and LED lamps. The dimming and adjustable color functions, and the Eco Light Rhythm function attracted a high level of interest.

New digital, full-color MFPs and digital MFPs that use biomass toner. Printing demonstrations were run to show how they increase efficiency in office operations.

Commercial LED lighting products and Plasmacluster Ion generators on display. They attracted a great deal of interest because of their brightness and energy efficiency.

Environmental Technologies

Sharp highlighted its proprietary closed-loop plastic recycling technology that can repeatedly recover and recycle materials. This technology was first put into practical use in 2001 and since then, the total amount of plastic recycled reached 5,050 tons in fiscal 2009. New highly functional paint based on waste LCD glass, as well as rear cabinets of LCD TVs and bioplastic that can be repeatedly recycled were also on display.

This area emphasized Sharp's one-of-a-kind environmental technologies. It featured a chronological display showing the evolution of closed-loop plastic recycling technologies, as well as easy-to-understand explanations using videos and displays of actual items.

GREEN FRONT SAKAI

Videos and explanatory panels introduced visitors to GREEN FRONT SAKAI, the world's leading environmentally advanced manufacturing complex.
