Sharp Holds Press Conference at IFA
Sharp held a press conference on August 30, 2007, before the opening day of IFA, Europe's largest consumer electronics tradeshow.
Sharp President & COO Mikio Katayama introduced Sharp's next-generation LCD TV and outlined the company's business strategy, including plans to build a new manufacturing complex in Japan. A demonstration of the newest slim-line LCD TV, which is a mere 20 millimeters thick, enabled the press to actually see for themselves Sharp's cutting-edge technological strengths, as exemplified by the TV's superb picture quality, thin profile, light weight, and environmental performance--all of which are unprecedented.
In outlining the new manufacturing complex, President Katayama explained Sharp's strategy of becoming an environmentally advanced company through the expansion of its LCD and solar cell businesses, two areas the new manufacturing complex will be devoted to. The manufacturing complex will be centered on a state-of-the-art LCD panel plant and the world's largest* solar cell plant.
Also speaking at the press conference was Toshiyuki Tajima, CEO Europe and SMPL Chairman, who presented an outline of Sharp's plant in Poland (Sharp Manufacturing Poland Sp.z o.o. [SMPL]) and of Sharp's LCD TV strategy for Europe. Mr. Tajima also introduced Sharp's new Blu-ray player and Blu-ray Disc strategy, which covers everything from components to final products.
