Ground-Breaking Ceremony for New Fridge and Washer Plant in Indonesia
On June 7, 2012, P.T. Sharp Electronics Indonesia (SEID)—Sharp’s production and sales subsidiary in Jakarta, Indonesia—held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new refrigerator and washing machine plant.
Among those attending the ceremony from the Indonesian side was Minister of Industry Mohamad S. Hidayat. Sharp, meanwhile, was represented by Executive Vice President Toshio Adachi, Executive Managing Officer and Group General Manager of ASEAN Group Noboru Fujimoto, and SEID President Fumihiro Irie.

SEID began production of refrigerators in 1974 and washing machines in 2008. Ever since, the company has been developing and manufacturing products tailored to the Indonesian market. Having steadily increased production, SEID reached the milestone of one million washing machines in 2011 and 10 million refrigerators in 2012.
Indonesia is experiencing steady economic growth, with demand for home appliances expected to grow even more in the future. This is why SEID is expanding its production capacity for home appliances by building a new plant in Karawang International Industrial City, Karawang, slated to begin operations in 2013.

At the ground-breaking event, SEID also made a presentation outlining its CSR activities in the ASEAN region. SEID has started a campaign to support the lives and health of children, a pressing social issue in the region. For each purchase of an LCD TV, Plasmacluster Ion generator, or air conditioner in the areas covered by the campaign, vaccines will be donated to children who need them. The campaign started on June 7, 100 days before Sharp’s 100th anniversary on September 15, 2012.
