Sharp Corporation will introduce into the Japanese market six
new LED Downlight Lightings, including three that deliver a light intensity
equivalent to a 150-watt incandescent lamp, an industry first for downlight
models.
The model DL-D007N Transparent Panel, Neutral White Downlight
Lighting delivers a brightness of 1,400 lumens, the highest in the industry *1 and
equivalent in intensity to a 150-watt incandescent lamp. This unit can be
used as main lights even in commercial facilities with high ceilings. The
complete line-up combines two types of LED with different emission color
temperatures (neutral white and warm white) and two types of cover panels
(transparent and translucent white) in lightings having equivalent light
intensities of either 150 or 100 watts. Neutral white LEDs can generate bright
lighting for factory or office entrances, warm white LEDs can provide relaxed
lighting for hotel lobbies and such, and translucent white cover panels are
ideal for use in hospitals and other venues where overly bright lighting
must be avoided. Users can select from a total of six models according to
application and installation location.
In the future, Sharp will be working to expand its LED lighting business to spark
a “lighting revolution in the factory, at the office, and in commercial facilities” based
on high environmental performance and reliability.

Notes:
Features
1. The industry's highest*1 brightness
of 1,400 lumens for an LED Downlight Lighting (DL-D007N).
These lightings are built around high-output LED modules manufactured by Sharp that deliver the highest level of brightness in the industry*2. They feature an intensity of 1,400 lumens, equivalent to a 150-watt incandescent lamp, an industry first*1 for an LED-based downlight. Ample brightness can be obtained even in commercial spaces with high ceilings, and in the entrances to factories, and offices.
*1 |
As of August 4, 2008 (for model DL-D007N). |
*2 |
As of August 4, 2008, for an electrical input of 3.6W. |
2. Outstanding energy efficiency with power consumption about one-fifth that of incandescent lamps of equivalent brightness (DL-D007N/DL-D001N).
Model DL-D007N delivers brightness equivalent to a 150-watt incandescent lamp while consuming only about one-fifth the power. The model DL-D001N is as bright as a 100-watt incandescent lamp, yet offers the same superb energy efficiencyabout one-fifth the power consumption of a standard incandescent lamp.
3. Long product life (40,000 hours), ideal for installation in locations where lamp replacement is difficult.
The use of a Sharp-manufactured high-output LED module combined with the development of a high-efficiency heat sink ensures a consistent 1,400 lumens of illumination and gives these units a design product life*3 of 40,000 hours.
Three factors enable minimizing the temperature rise resulting from heat generated by the LED module: 1) a proprietary heat dissipation design that involved performing heat analysis simulations to optimize the fin spacing to promote heat transfer from heat sink surfaces, 2) the use of vertical baffles to increase natural convective airflow (thereby forming an open thermosiphon), and 3) improving the heat radiation performance by painting the fin surfaces black. In addition, a cover is positioned on the top of the heat sink to control the build-up of dust and maintain heat radiating performance over long periods of time.
These units can be expected to remain in operation for 10 years or longer, even when lit for 10 hours per day. They are ideal for installation in locations that require lights to remain illuminated for long periods of time, or in places where lamp fixture replacement is difficult such as high places or multi-story open spaces like stairwells, foyers and the like.
*3 |
Design product life is defined as the length of time until brightness declines to 70% of initial brightness and does not guarantee the product operating life. |
4. Six models to match a wide range of applications
The neutral LED models are ideal for use in the entrance areas of factories and offices where high efficiency and brightness is important. The warm white LED models are ideal for lobbies in hotels where a sense of relaxation and restfulness is valued. And the translucent white panels that cut glare are well suited for hospitals and similar settings. In addition, the line-up includes 150- and 100-W equivalent intensities (light output equivalent to conventional incandescent lamps) to meet a diverse range and variety of needs.
5. Diameter of recessed luminaire is 125 mm; can replace existing downlights.
These luminaires can also be used to replace existing downlights with no additional ceiling work required. Also, the system to mount the units in the ceiling is based on three spring clips, allowing them to be installed in ceiling materials ranging from 5 to 25 mm in thickness. The power of the spring clips to pull the unit upward minimizes any gap between the surface of the ceiling material and the fixture.
Note: Sharp is also planning to market an adaptor plate (optional; sold separately) to enable these units to be installed in recessed openings up to 150-mm in diameter.
