Business Overview

In our aim to help improve people’s quality of life and create a sustainable society, the Smart Appliances & Solutions BU supplies end consumers and B2B customers globally with a variety of appliances, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, and air purifiers.

Major SDG Contribution Examples

  • The Smart Appliances & Solutions BU continues to develop energy-saving technologies for individual white goods, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and other energy-demanding appliances, and to develop resource-saving designs, such as for water-saving No-Holes Tub washing machines, while also expanding the incorporation of recycled plastics through the use of closed-loop material recycling technology*2. In addition, we are continually working on the development of AIoT-compatible devices that automatically save energy while being adapted to each user’s lifestyle. In fiscal 2025, we obtained ★1 (Level 1) certification under Japan’s JC-STAR cybersecurity labeling scheme for more than 400 AIoT product models, providing customers with greater peace of mind. Overseas, we updated and expanded the range of services we offer that are tailored to the needs of regional markets, including ASEAN, Taiwan, and North America.
  • In demonstration testing of DR (demand response) control for home air conditioners begun in July 2024, we have confirmed effective power consumption reduction of approximately 33% without compromising comfort*3. Following this, in fiscal 2025, we commercialized an energy management solution that automatically responds to power companies’ DR requests for reduced electricity demand using only a home IoT air conditioner, without requiring additional equipment, such as storage batteries or HEMS, thereby enabling widespread adoption in households.
  • We have stepped up our efforts to utilize generative AI, which will be the foundation of future society and technological innovation. Following the introduction of the Cook Talk service for our Healsio superheated steam oven released in 2024, we have now added the COCORO HOME AI to our washing machines, air conditioners, and refrigerators. This new service utilizes the AIoT technology and expertise that we have cultivated over the past 10 years, as well as the evolving dialogue interface unique to generative AI, to provide tips on usage, maintenance, and other processes, through more natural dialogue via a smartphone.

Business Outlook and Growth Story

  • Development of an AI Trainer for Care Facilities using generative AI and TV
We have developed an AI Trainer for Care Facilities to support functional training for older adults. As care facilities continue to face staffing shortages, a key challenge is how to improve the efficiency of functional training while maintaining its quality. This solution allows users to exercise in a fun, game-like way, following the instructions and movements of an AI character, thereby helping them stay engaged and continue their training. Meanwhile, facilities can reduce staff workload by having the AI automatically create training plans and records. We will continue to conduct trials in care facilities with the aim of bringing this solution into practical use in the near future.
