Sharp Environmental Forum in Hangzhou

Sharp Hosts 9th Environmental Forum in China

A scene from the forum

In response to the growing momentum of environmental efforts in China, Sharp is holding a series of environmental forums for Chinese government officials and media executives. The ninth Sharp Environmental Forum was held in Hangzhou on November 10, 2009 following earlier ones in Shanghai (May 2007), Beijing (September 2007), Guangzhou (March 2008), Tianjin (May 2008), Wuhan (September 2008), Xian (December 2008), Chengdu (February 2009), and Shenyang (June 2009). The event drew 26 representatives from the Hangzhou municipal government and media organizations.

Sharp Corporation's Shinichi Niihara, CEO China, opened the event by thanking attendees for their participation in the Sharp Environmental Forum. He also introduced Sharp's environmental vision of expanding business in energy-saving products and energy-creating solar cells in order to help alleviate the world's environmental problems.

Hiroshi Morimoto, Executive Officer and Group General Manager, Environmental Protection Group, followed up with a presentation on the goals and actions of Sharp's new environmental vision of "Becoming an Eco-Positive Company" and its new environmental strategy, the Eco-Positive Strategy.

After that, Deputy Mayor Zhang Jianting, representing the Chinese participants, introduced the city's environmental policies and offered Sharp some advice as well.

The high level of interest in environmental issues was abundantly clear as the forum came to a close with a flurry of enthusiastic questions from participants about Sharp's environmental efforts and policies.
