Sharp to Introduce Two New E17 Compact LED Lamps and Two New E26 Globe LED Lamps

LED Lamp Line-Up Now Totals 13 Models

Press Release

Sharp Corporation will introduce into the Japanese market two new E17 Compact LED Lamps (DL-J40AN/L) and E26 Globe LED Lamps (DL-L81AN/L). All models are compatible with dimmers*1.

The E17-base compact models use Sharp’s proprietary LED devices and are based on high-density surface mounting technology to achieve a compact size with a brightness nearly equivalent to Sharp’s existing E26-base LED lamps (Sharp models DL-L40AN/L).

The E26-base globe models feature brightness at the industry’s highest levels*2 (DL-L81AN; daylight equivalent: 730 lumens). In addition, they are the first E26-base globe lamp models in the industry*2 to be compatible with dimmers.

Sharp is adding these four new models to nine models of E26-base general illumination LED lamps introduced in 2009, boosting its line-up to a total of 13 LED lamps, and offering new lighting solutions.

Major Features

DL-J40AN/L E17 Compact LED Lamps, 4.5 W

1. Compact size (35-mm diameter (max) x 67 mm total length) and bright illumination (nearly equivalent to Sharp’s model DL-L40AN/L E26-base general illumination LED lamp) thanks to Sharp’s proprietary LED devices and high-density surface mounting technology.
2. Dimmerable.
3. Outstanding energy efficiency allows lamps to be used for approximately 10 hours for a cost of one yen*3.

DL-L81AN/L E26 Globe LED Lamps, 11.0 W

1. Bright, even surface illumination with brightness in the industry’s highest class. (DL-L81AN).
2. Dimmerable.
3. Outstanding energy efficiency allows lamps to be used for approximately 4 hours for a cost of one yen*3.

*1 Requires a separate dimmer (phase-control system: up to 500 W capacity) to adjust brightness.
*2 As of January 20, 2010, for E26 -base globe LED lamps.
*3 Electricity costs calculated at the rate of 22 yen/kWh (tax included).

Outstanding Features

DL-J40AN/L E17 Compact LED Lamps, 4.5 W

1. Compact size (35-mm diameter (max) x 67 mm total length) and bright illumination (nearly equivalent to Sharp’s model DL-L40AN/L E26-base general illumination LED lamp) thanks to Sharp’s proprietary LED devices and high-density surface mounting technology

These lamps are based on a new model of Sharp’s proprietary Zenigata LED module that achieves high luminous efficiency in a compact package. In addition, high-density surface mounting technology provides both compact size and high brightness by shrinking the size of the power supply circuitry, including the dimmer functions, enabling these components to be integrated even into small lighting fixtures such as downlights.*4

Further, these lamps deliver brightness (total luminous flux: 310 lumens for daylight white and 250 lumens for warm white) nearly equivalent to Sharp’s DL-L40AN/L E26-base general illumination lamps (total luminous flux: 320 lumens for daylight white and 235 lumens for warm white).

*4 Note that the lamp cannot be used for certain fixture types.

2. Dimmerable

These lamps can be used with dimmers*5 designed for ordinary incandescent lamps. Users can enjoy lighting to match the weather, the season, the time of day, or other preferences, and can save energy as well. (Each model can also be used in lighting fixtures without dimmers at full brightness.)

*5 Compatible with dimmers of up to 500 W capacity that use phase-control systems. These lamps cannot be combined with dimmers based on sensor systems, wireless remote controller systems, or solid-state (SCR) control systems.
3. Outstanding energy efficiency allows lamp to be used for 10 hours for a cost of one yen

These lamps consume only 4.5 watts, enabling them to be used for approximately 10 hours for the cost of just one yen.

4. Long service life with a design lifetime of 25,000 hours*6

These lamps will not need replacing for more than 6 years, even when used for 10 hours a day.

*6 Service life is defined as the time until luminous flux drops below 70% of its original level. This figure indicates design life, and is not meant as a guarantee of product lifetime.

DL-L81AN/L E26 Globe LED Lamps, 11.0 W

1. Bright, even surface illumination with brightness in the industry’s highest class (DL-L81AN)

Applying a diffusion coating to the inside of the glass globe provides bright, uniform surface illumination and prevents uneven color and variations in light intensity. The attractive globe style (meets the Japan Industrial Standards for G95 globe lamps) allows these lamps to appear right at home as replacements for conventional incandescent lamps. They deliver a brightness of 730 lumens, among the brightest in the industry for a general illumination LED lamp in a globe lamp style with a standard E26 base.

2. Dimmerable

These lamps can be used with dimmers*5 designed for ordinary incandescent lamps, a first for E26-base LED globe lamps, allowing the brightness to be adjusted as desired. Users can enjoy lighting to match the weather, the season, the time of day, or other preferences, and can save energy as well. (Each model can also be used in lighting fixtures without dimmers at full brightness.)

3. Outstanding energy efficiency allows lamp to be used for 4 hours for a cost of one yen

These lamps feature outstanding energy efficiency and consume only 11.0 watts, enabling them to be used for approximately 4 hours for the cost of just one yen.

4. Long service life with a design lifetime of 40,000 hours*6

These lamps will not need replacing for more than 10 years, even when used for 10 hours a day.

Specifications Common to Both Styles

1. Lamps light instantly at maximum intensity and show no deterioration in intensity even after repeated on/off cycles

LED lamps light at full brightness immediately after being switched on. In addition, there is no deterioration in intensity or longevity even after repeated cycles of being switched on and off. Thus, LED lamps are ideal for use in bathrooms, entryways, hallways, lavatories, and other areas where lights are turned on and off frequently.

2. Clean, bug-free

These LED lamps emit almost no light in the 350-nm (ultraviolet) waveband that tends to attract insects, so lighting fixtures stay free from flying bugs and insects.

Other Environmental Features

Lead-free solder
Contains absolutely no specific bromine flame-retardant agents

Safety Design

Fire-retardant materials
